Welcome
Since our founding, we have been on a mission to improve the health and well-being
of individuals and communities, increase the diversity of the physician and scientific
workforce, and advance primary health care through programs in education, research, patient care and service. From a two-year medical education program on the campus of Morehouse
College to the preeminent academic health center it is today, Morehouse School of
Medicine has been a valued and trusted partner in health care. Through our innovative
and translational research centers, our faculty continues to make groundbreaking discoveries
in diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS.
Our family practice plan at Morehouse Healthcare and throughout metro Atlanta provides critical care to the diverse communities of
Georgia’s capital city.
The health care landscape is evolving. With the increasing need for primary care physicians,
the looming physician
shortage, and the continued challenges brought on by health disparities, we must transform
the way we think about health, health care and health care delivery. Our bold new
vision to lead the creation and advancement of health equity empowers us to begin
tackling these challenges.
The cost of medical education and student indebtedness deters many promising students
from a career in medicine. Decreases in federal and local funding impacts our ability
to conduct the innovative research that leads to transformational discoveries; and,
changes in policy and health care systems challenge the capability of physicians to
provide care to those who need it most. Our supporters, donors, and strategic partners
make it possible for us to positively impact the lives of those we serve. As we celebrate
our 40-year legacy, we recognize that many individuals, organizations, and communities
have contributed to our success. I truly hope that you consider becoming a partner with us in helping our current and future students, the next impactful and innovative doctors,
scientists, and healthcare leaders, in communities that need superb service the most,
succeed to their highest capacity.
